Guéreins is a small village in France, in the valley of the Saone, 50 km north of Lyon. It is also the birthplace of Stellarium. Version 0.15.1

WIKIPEDIA : Fabien CHEREAU (born 17 September 1980 in Villefranche-sur-Saône, France) is a French Research Engineer and computer programmer best known for authoring the planetarium software Stellarium, a free, open source astronomy software package which renders 3D photo-realistic skies in real time.[1]

He previously worked as a Research Engineer at the Paris Astronomical Observatory for the satellite Gaia of European Space Agencyon a CNES-funded position for the On-board Detection and the Radial Velocity Spectrometer working groups. He worked in ESO on a plugin for Stellarium, called VirGO, from April 2008 to 2010.

CHEREAU wrote the first version of the Gaia on-board detection algorithm. He worked on the definition of the Spectro sky mappers and was in charge of the development of the algorithms for these instruments.

Chéreau achieved his Master's Degree (Diplôme d'Ingénieur) in Computer Science at the National Institute of Applied Sciences of Lyon, France.

Since summer 2000, CHEREAU is working on the free, open source astronomy software Stellarium in C++/OpenGL during his spare time. CHEREAU 's interest in observations, calculations and astronomy helped in the creation of Stellarium.

Western culture

Western sky culture is used internationally by modern astronomers, and is the official scheme of The International Astronomical Union. It has historical roots in Ancient Greek astronomy, with influences from Islamic astronomy.

Constellations

The Western culture divides the celestial sphere into 88 areas of various sizes called constellations, each with precise boundary, issued by the International Astronomical Union. These constellations have become the standard way to describe the sky, replacing similar sets in other sky cultures exhaustively in daily usage.

Star names

Most of traditional western star names came from Arabic. In astronomy, Bayer/Flamsteed designations and other star catalogues are widely used instead of traditional names except few cases where the traditional names are more famous than the designations.

The Caterpillar grows rapidly and moults 4 to 6 times during its growth and then becomes a Chrysalis and for a few weeks it will have a period of calm successive transformations to form the stcture of the adult body of the Butterfly which finally emerges from the chrysalis, to fly towards the sky.
